Tree & Shrub Planting Instructions

3 FACTORS TO ENSURE SUCCESS

1. The root ball should be slightly higher than ground level.

2. Water well during planting.

3. Add 1/3 organic matter to 2/3 existing soil before planting.

Dig your hole twice the diameter and just as deep as the container or root ball. Remove 1/3 of the existing soil and thoroughly mix an equal amount of Evergreen PROFESSIONAL PLANTING MIX (or mixture of topsoil, sphagnum, and soil conditioner).

For container plants, gently remove the plant and loosen the outer root system. Place enough soil mixture in the bottom of the hole so that the crown of the root ball is slightly higher than the original soil level.

If the plant is balled and burlapped, after placing in the hole, remove any string that is wrapped around the trunk (discard all synthetic burlap), loosen the burlap around the top of the ball, and tuck the loose burlap to the sides of the hole. Make sure that the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original ground level and backfill the soil mixture around the root ball so that the entire ball is covered.

To enhance water and fertilizer retention capacity in the planting mix, incorporate SOIL MOIST in the soil mix at planting.

Thoroughly water the plant. Then, apply FERTILOME ROOT STIMULATOR according to instructions to ease transplant shock and to accelerate root growth. Repeat weekly for 3 weeks.

Once planted, apply 3 inches of PINE BARK MULCH around the root system.

Water 2 times weekly during the growing season from April through mid-October (slight variations can be made during wet and dry periods). Be sure to water plants under eaves or trees even during wet periods.

After six weeks, apply Evergreen H&G Showplace PROFESSIONAL NURSERY FORMULA or FLOWER BOOSTER evenly over the entire root system area. Apply to the top of the bark and water in well for best results. Apply at least once each spring, summer and fall.
